THE MASSEUSE and THE DRAGON by Violette Dubrinsky

THE MASSEUSE and THE DRAGON by Violette Dubrinsky

There are a few authors who fellow readers often recommend I read through Goodreads and whatnot. Violette Dubrinsky’s works come up a lot. I love her paranormal work, and so when she turned her typing fingers to contemporary, I decided to have a peek. Description: THE MASSEUSE is part one of a saga that begins when an executive named Jezebel Carter gets what turns into an erotic massage by a man she thinks is just a masseuse. Spoiler-but-not-really: he’s totally not. THE DRAGON is part two of that saga. I suggest buying both from the get, because if you’re some place you can’t download the second book when you’re done reading the first, you will be frustrated and angry at both yourself and Ms. Dubrinsky. The Good: THE MASSEUSE:...

HOW TO LOVE A BLUE DEMON–An Interview with Sherrod Story

HOW TO LOVE A BLUE DEMON–An Interview with Sherrod Story

Guys! This year, I had the privilege of reading an early draft of HOW TO LOVE A BLUE DEMON by Sherrod Story, and I loved, loved, loved it. But of course I couldn’t review it because the draft I read wasn’t the draft readers would ultimately read. So we decided to do an interview instead. And let me tell you, I so enjoyed doing this interview with Sherrod. So much so that if there are any authors reading this, who would like to get interviewed by me, drop me a line on Facebook or in my gmail account. One requirement tho: I must have reviewed at least one of your books on my site.  But back to the wonderful and amazing, Sherrod Story, whose THE HICK & THE HIPPIE I also loved (gave it an A-). Let’s dig in!   TT: So…a blue demon falls...

BEAST by Pepper Pace

BEAST by Pepper Pace

Description: When plus-size beauty, Ashleigh, meets Chris, a “beast” of a marine with a face disfigured from a cleft palate at the gym, sparks fly. But can she overcome her baggage and make an HEA happen with the best man she’s ever had the honor of dating? BEAST quite deservedly made it to the semi-final rounds of this year’s Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest. The Good: I’m so late on this, that I doubt anyone who reads this review hasn’t actually already read the book yet. But I’m going to just go ahead and add to the gush fest. This book is sooooooo good. I love that the heroine is plus-sized and struggles with both self-esteem issues and Type 2 diabetes. Ashleigh is incredibly relatable and I could not recommend...

A BATTLE RAGING by Sharon Cullars

A BATTLE RAGING by Sharon Cullars

Description: When Maya Temple, an earnest art teacher meets her new student, Zachary Yarborough, an unruly, paraplegic war vet with PTSD, it’s clash at first sight. Can these two learn to see eye to eye in art and in love? The Good: If you’re looking for something a little different, this is the book for you. BATTLE is finely written with well-realized characters, who actually feel like real people. I liked the Maya character especially and really wanted to take her art class–too bad I don’t live in Seattle and oh yeah, I kept on forgetting, it’s fiction. As for the hero, I loved that Zach had complex anger management issues, which the author did a very good job dealing with in a realistic way. Before reading this, I didn’t...

BABY GIRL AND THE MEAN BOSS by Pepper Pace

BABY GIRL AND THE MEAN BOSS by Pepper Pace

Description: Nicole–Baby Girl to her co-workers, even though she’s not that young–barely manages to put up with her grumpy boss, Marty. That is, until she gets into a terrible car accident and he unexpectedly comes through. Could this be a case of mistaken intentions, or is Nicole’s mean boss the perfect guy for her? The Good: This book is a highly romantic read, with one of my favorite tropes, damaged people–in this case literally and figuratively–finding healing in each other. I love that the heroine and the hero get to see each other at their worst, and Ms. Pace does a great job of illuminating the vulnerable people under their hard shells. There’s also a nice emotional mystery running through the story. You’ll...

THE ULTIMATE MERGER by Delaney Diamond

THE ULTIMATE MERGER by Delaney Diamond

Description: When Brazilian hotelier, Renaldo, and investment banker, Sabrina meet. it’s sizzling chemistry at first sight. But he’s only in the country for a little while. Can they take their relationship from fling status to the ultimate merger? The Good: Ms. Diamond is a very dynamic, consistent, and immediately engaging writer. She keeps her part in the indie author-reader covenant better than most, and her books are always solidly-structured and cleanly-written — she’s on top of her craft. This story is short, sweet, and as of this writing, totally free. THE ULTIMATE MERGER is a great intro to her longer works. The Bad: Though I was satisfied with the A-story romance, it felt like the B story with her addict cousin was given short...

AT LAST by Billy London

AT LAST by Billy London

Description: Courtney has been nursing a low-grade crush on her long time mate, Chris, who is away, teaching English in South Africa — so imagine her surprise when she starts receiving emails from Chris’s housemate, Ryan. Can Courtney and Ryan bring their online romance into the real world? The Good: This is a sweet but seriously sexy story, featuring a very cute, young couple, who make each other laugh. They had terrific banter, and again the sex was very, very hot. I loved that the two characters really felt like young people. They have young people flaws, get in young people scrapes, and generally do the things that young people do. The story felt culturally authentic and age appropriate. The Bad: Lots of references to Brit pop culture and lots of...

SEDUCED BY THE WOLF by Zena Wynn

SEDUCED BY THE WOLF by Zena Wynn

Description: Von Washington has a secret: she has never stopped being pen pals with Master Sergeant Sean Jacobson, the former army buddy of her controlling fiancé. But when Sean comes to town several secrets will be revealed, including that he’s a werewolf! The Good: This is great read with exceptional storytelling, gasp-out-loud twists and turns, and hot, hot, HOT sex. I loved how the author dealt with Sean’s ongoing struggles to control his wolf. And Von’s cousin is awesome. She made me want to call up my favorite cousin for a long overdue chat. The Bad: The epilogue feels tacked on and rushed. The Naughty: Erotic. Women struggling with sexuality. Sexual situations depicted with two different men. Editing issues: 7 typos found....
