RIVALS FOR LOVE by Eve Vaughn

August 6, 2012 in B Reviews, Book Reviews, business man, bwwm, bwwm romance, Carina Press, erotic, menage trois

Description: After almost getting over the heartbreak of being unceremoniously dumped by her first love, Sawyer, Hayden Sinclair has managed to move on with his long-time rival, Luc, another ridiculously hot businessmen. But then Sawyer comes back to town and makes it clear that he has every intention of winning her back. What’s a girl to do?

The Good: This was the first interracial romance I ever listened to on audiobook, and I really liked the experience. I’m hoping more will come out in this format. The sex is very hot, and Ms. Vaughn does a very good job of presenting Hayden’s conflict. Readers will have a lot of fun rooting for Team Luc or Team Sawyer — if you’re wondering, I was firmly on Team Luc.

The Bad: The story is very sexy, but suffers from an abundance of momentum-killing and often unnecessary conversations. For example, it’s great that Hayden gets along with Sawyer’s much younger half-sister, but it’s excruciating to sit through pages of them shopping for an appropriate dress for her Sweet Sixteen when you’re dying to know what’s going to happen next in the much hotter love triangle.

The Naughty: Erotic. Menage. Sexy dreams. Outside sex. Peeping Tom.

Editing issues: N/A

Publisher: Carina Press

Length: 208 pages

WAY OF THE WOLF by Netherland St. James

April 16, 2012 in Book Reviews, boss, D Reviews, erotic, menage trois, mmf, office romance, paranormal, self-published, shifter(s), short story, werewolf

Description: Trace and Dustin are best friend and shifter-wolves, and they have a very interesting problem. They’re both in love with the same woman, and she happens to be their employee.

The Good: This is a good situation. And the sex is hot.

The Bad: Almost the entire story is told and not shown. I’m still not sure if Olivia is black or white — the Amazon tags say bwwm, but she’s not described in physical terms outside of the two leads desire. The story has somewhat good bones, but ultimately fails due to really poor execution.

The Naughty: Erotic. Menage.

Editing issues: 2 typos

Publisher: Capri Montgomery Books (Indie author)

Length: 7,000+ words

Final Grade: D+

DON’T CALL HER ANGEL by Cara McKenna

March 13, 2012 in A Reviews, alpha male, beta male, Book Reviews, Ellora's Cave, erotic, married couple, menage trois

Description: Emily, a sweet Georgia blond, and her husband, Rasul, a hard Middle Eastern man, have created a mutually-beneficial, Dom/sub marriage for themselves. Will inviting another man into their bedroom disrupt or further fuel their passion?

The Good: This is a really, really, really unusual read. It’s not quite BDSM, but not in any way your run-of-the-mill romance. The narrative is more slice-of-life than straight-forward, and in many ways this story feels more like a character study, with the author digging deeper and deeper into the three people at its center. The sex is written incredibly hot, and I have never read a couple quite like this. I love that they’re both in direct conflict with the way they were raised. If you’re looking for something different, something edgy, pick this book up.

The Bad: Those who are fans of plot-driven novels with straightforward HEA narratives might want to avoid this one. This is two commercial erotic romances what edgy indie films are to commercial movies.

The Naughty: Erotic. Threesome. Role Play. Possible Triggers for those with SA in their past.

Editing issues: One typo found.

Publisher: Ellora’s Cave

Length: 110 pages (Amazon estimated length)

Final Grade: A-

THREE BULLETS by Tasha D-Drake

January 25, 2012 in asian male white male, Book Reviews, gay male romance, menage trois, Novella, self-published

Description: Bae, a young half-Korean Englishman, needs to make a little money to escape his small town, so he takes a job person sitting Steve, the temporarily blind brother of Jim Jones. Neither brother is quite what he seems, and Bae’s boring job takes a turn for the steamy.

The Good: I really liked Bae, and Steve was a hoot. The sex was very hot. It’s a very compelling and quick read.

The Bad: Though I found this novel through a search for interracial gay romance, it’s not quite that. Also, the cover is kind of horrible.

The Naughty: Erotic, explicit language, menage.

Editing issues: Minor. Two typos.

Publisher: Wittengen Press

Length: Short Story

Final Grade: C+
